London Lions’ over-35 veterans team will hope to add silverware to the Rowley Lane cabinet this coming Sunday when they take on long time adversaries Bushey Sports Club in the final of the Middlesex County Cup.
For now though they focus on the tie this weekend. To be played on the 4G surface at Edgware Town FC the side are in confident mood on the back of recent good form that included a confidence boosting hammering dished out to Greenford in the league last week. 4 goal hero of that day, the side will sadly be without the influential services of captain and top scorer Bradley Lazarus who is away on holiday. And despite the handsome win last time out, it came at a cost as they sweat on the fitness of a few key men.
Yet there is more than enough ability in the squad. From stalwarts Andrew Myers, Jon Rayner, and Tony Gold to the attacking talents of Paul Lenchner, Hadley Silver and Max Radford through to the younger Maccabiah hopefuls like Alex Levack, Danny Daggers, Saul Conway and Craig Pearl….whatever team Lions put out they will give it their all.
Bushey have been somewhat of a nemesis for Lions in this competition, beating them in the 2014 final and then on penalties in the 2015 semi. Managed by ex-Masters Maccabiah coach Jason Dale and including a number of ex-professional footballers in their ranks including the likes of Junior Lewis and Darren Currie, they remain the team to beat at this level, but the side from Rowley Lane go into the game on a good run of form will certainly give it their all as they try to avenge those defeats.
The team would love your support – please lend it to them.
