With the County Cup safely secured in the Rowley Lane trophy cabinet, the Vets, managed by managers of the year Dan Jacobs and Dan Reuben, look to add the prestigious Invitational Cup when they take on Amersham Town this Sunday.
It’s been a tough journey, but reward for victories over highly fancied Garston, Hadley, Southgate and Colney Heath is this final tie that is being played at Rowley Lane’s Alpha Stadium. A 2-2 draw with Herts champions Garston served neither side well, a second placed league finish is now the likelihood unless Winchmore Hill somehow fail to beat bottom side Greenford next week. So the team will be looking to bounce back in this their final game of a brilliant season in which they’ve lost just 3 games over 4 competitions.
The game kicks off at 11am and the team could really use your support
The squad is made up of some of Lions’ real stalwarts, without many of whom the club we love today would look a great deal different. Managers, committee members, fundraisers, captains, players, founder members…the club has much to be thankful to not just the 2 Dans but to the likes of Brad Lazarus, Andrew Myers, Adam Myeroff, Craig Henry, John Rayner, Max Radford et al. Add to these the very talented crop of Alex Levack, Craig Pearl, Danny Daggers, Hadley Silver, Saul Conway and last season’s top scorer Paul Lenchner and it’s a group who really do deserve our support.
So get the date in your diary and get to Rowely Lane on Sunday to give these guys who have given (and continue to give) so much to our club your full backing. Oh, and they’re a pretty decent side – most of their opponents feature players who in their pomp played at the highest levels, so the quality on show will surprise….
