Alan Mattey embodied the Lions player – playing to win, yet with a smile on his face and pride in the jersey – representing a Jewish football club flying the flag for our community in the Herts County League.
Despite passing away twelve years ago, Alan’s name lives on, and I doubt there is a player, supporter or parent who doesn’t recognise the name Alan Mattey.
Through his charitable trust, the Mattey family have been a vital and huge supporter of London Lions. Whether it’s being the main sponsor of our Junior section for many years, or supporting the building of the Alan Mattey Stand and facilities that rival any at our level, the Mattey family have been there to help.
Now it’s time for us to give back…
The Maccabi GB Community Fun Run takes place on Sunday June 24th and over 5,000 people run or walk the 1k, 5k or 10km to raise funds for good causes.
The Alan Mattey Trust supports a number of great charities and community assets – including Maccabi London Lions – and we would like to show our thanks to the Mattey family for all their generosity by helping them raise money for their chosen causes.
We would like as many Lions players, parents and kids as possible to run the very short distance in the name of the Alan Mattey Trust.
Run in teams, as families, or with friends – but everyone that takes part will be helping do their bit. What’s more, entry is FREE for Lions Juniors up to 15 years of age.
At the same time, what a great way to remember our friend, team-mate and Lion; Alan Mattey.
