A number of our Junior sides were involved in end-of-season finals, which were packed with drama this weekend.
The Under 18 Blues won a topsy-turvy Spring Cup Final; up 1-0 at the interval after Joel Kiashek set up James Williams to open the score, Lions looked to have thrown it away when they went 3-1 down within 20 minutes of the re-start, however a rousing comeback saw the Blues take it into extra time after Mikey Perkins pulled one back from the penalty spot. After Mens’ 1st team ‘keeper 16-year old Reuben Rabstein showed his class in goal, Lions won another spot kick which Jamie Cohen converted. In a tense extra time, Ben Case set up Cohen to score the vital goal for a 4-3 win and claim the trophy!
The Under 11 Whites managed to win the League Cup knockout by the narrowest of margins. Their semi final against Hadley Rangers was a tight affair. In the final against Mill Hill Village the game went to extra-time but it remained level. Lions finally prevailing on penalties.
In the Under 10s Lions had two teams representing the club in the last four of the competition as both the Blues and Whites had won through to face Enfield Rangers and London Colney respectively.
The Blues lost in their semi-final very narrowly to Enfield, but Lions Whites had better fortune, winning against London Colney Colts Red.
The final saw Lions White held by Enfield after extra time, thanks mainly to the Enfield goalkeeper who made some wonderful saves to keep Lions out. Lions heartbreak was complete the boys were narrowly beaten in a penalty shoot-out.
In the Under 9s, it was also a story of narrow defeat as the Whites made the final after beating Whetstone Wanderers in a thrilling semi-final. However, the trophy went to Edgware Town after Lions lost despite coming back from behind to set up a grandstand finish.
Congratulations to all the winners and indeed finalists, who have shown the quality we have in our Junior ranks!
