Lions Under 12 White team scored an impressive victory against the Norwich City’s London Centre of Excellence in an invitational friendly last week.
When a Norwich City Academy Scout saw our boys win impressively at Cuffley he invited the Lions side to play in a friendly at their training school in Wembley.
Manager Nigel Burns agreed to give his boys some useful experience, and they rose to the occasion against a side of Under 11 and Under 12s from the Canaries’ Centre of Excellence. The format was a 9-a-side game which was played on astroturf and split into 4 quarters.
Having gone 1-0 down in the first 8 mins, despite having the better chances, the Lions boys clicked into top gear.
Nigel Burns said ‘The football played was quick, sharp and devastating – not hanging onto the ball for too long and being caught in possession is what Joel and I have tried to get into the boys way of thinking since day one’.
‘They didn’t have a minute to think, and the speed, accuracy and movement was amazing to watch’
Eventually Lions ran out 10-1 winners with Jason Burns scoring five, Ben Barnett three, and one a piece for Dylan Philips and Joseff Rubinoff.
Lions management received some complimentary words from the Norwich coach at the end “that was superb – you have taught them so well as that is how to play football” – and the boys came off the field having enjoyed a memorable night.
