A disappointing midweek result made all the worse by what looks like a recurrence of the serious knee injury from which striker James Gershfield had only just returned after more than a year out. We all wish James well and are hoping it’s not as bad as first feared.
On the pitch the game started well, Lions settling in well on the carpet of a pitch at Wingate’s ground that Enfield are sharing this season. Great interplay between Gershfield and Bolle saw the latter apply the finish to give Lions a deserved lead after barely 10 minutes, but things soon took a turn for the worse with the concession of two cheap goals and the injury to Gershfield. To their credit Lions re-grouped and were the better side in terms of chances created, Bolle deservedly getting the side level before the break and at 2-2 the teams went in for the half time cuppa.
Enfield however started sharply, and when they stole into the lead again they began to play some good stuff with their pace causing Lions trouble, earning just reward with their fourth goal and a two goal cushion. Lions were still creating chances, and having spurned a couple they gave themselves a lifeline when Nathan Schindler scored his first goal for the 1st XI. However any thoughts of a comeback were quickly extinguished as the hosts added a 5th and 6th goal to their tally to eventually run out comfortable winners.
Not quite the start all had hoped for, but with no team having recorded 2 wins from 2 there’s no real damage done. the side look forward to the FA Cup toe with Wembley on Saturday to be followed next Tuesday with a league tie at Broadfields.
