Dan Jacobs’ Maccabiah Masters over 35 squad take on an ex-professional XI this Wednesday evening (5th April, KO 7.45pm) at Rowley Lane as part of their preparations for Israel.
Coached by former QPR, Reading and Palace star Mikele Liegertwood, their opposition on Weds night is a squad made up of players from the game with whom Mikele played during a professional career that saw him play more than 400 games. On the team sheet for Wednesday night will be over 2500 Premier League/Championship appearances and in excess of 50 international caps, with the likes of Nicky Shorey, Fitz Hall, Brian Howard, Kevin Lisbie, Jobi Macanuff, John Fortune, Paul Linger, Tommy Black, Hogan Ephraim and Patrick Ageymang listed in the opposing squad.
“This will be an incredibly difficult game against top quality opposition but is something for the guys to relish. These are not just some bunch of guys who used to play – a couple are still playing league football while others have only just stopped playing! But the chance to share the pitch with a team who will keep the ball better than we do and will do everything that bit quicker can only stand us in good stead with the summer in mind”.
The Maccabiah side features a host of current and ex-Lions stalwarts – Sam Sloma, Guy Morris, Adam Myeroff, Alex Levack, Danny Daggers, Adam Stolerman and Lee Cash have all made countless appearances for Lions’ 1st Team, while Saul Conway, Craig Pearl and Adam Harvey are amongst those who have brought so much success to the current Garston League side.
Entrance to the game is free of charge, so come down and bring the kids to lend support and see how the pros really do it.
