The club are delighted to report that Lions stalwart Dan Jacobs has been retained by MGB as the manager of the Mens 35+ Masters Side at next summer’s 20th Maccabiah Games in Israel.
Having represented Team GB as a player and manager before (one of just a handful to have done so at European, Pan-American and World games), his experience at this level is un-questioned. He’s excited by the opportunity to build another squad who he’ll be looking to emulate if not surpass his bronze medal winning class of 2013, most of whom form the spine of the club’s high flying Garston Vets side.
“To be given the chance to lead another squad at a World Maccabiah is the ultimate honour. We worked tirelessly to provide an unforgettable 12 month experience to those lucky enough to make the grade last time round. To get the gig again suggests that we got an awful lot right”.
“Masters football is growing in popularity and standard year on year. Our side at Lions is testament to that, with the very best players of the generation still turning it on on a weekly basis against some top sides. Having played and managed in a Maccabiah Masters Tournament I really think I get football at this level and can’t wait to get cracking with what promises to be a talented group.”
“What we created 4 years ago was unique; for me the challenge to try and go one better both on and off the pitch is something to try and strive for. It will be different I know, but over the year it’s my aim to deliver for my squad a bond and a set of experiences like no other they’ve had. It’s a great honour but also a great responsibility – one I am focused on delivering”.
It’s a fantastic and well deserved reward for someone whose commitment and attention to detail is un-questioned. The club would like to congratulate him on this fabulous appointment and hope to soon be able to announce further Maccabiah roles for other Lions.
