Chief Rabbi Mirvis was a welcome visitor to Rowley Lane this weekend.
The sports-mad Rabbi enjoyed his visit; surveying the incredible facilities of Maccabi London, meeting some of the Junior players, both boys and girls as well as getting some bowling tips from our neighbours at Maccabi London Vale cricket club.
After giving a short talk in the clubhouse reaffirming the link with sport and our Jewish community, he was presented with his own London Lions shirt.
Lions’ Lee Glassar said ‘having the Chief Rabbi tour the Rowley Lane facilities and meet the club’s young boys was incredible for everyone involved with Lions Football Club.
‘He was so effusive with praise for the part we play in the Jewish community and the winning mentality we install in young people, without it being at all costs; as well as the togetherness amongst the teams and the amount of volunteers we have working for one common cause. The betterment of young Jewish people’s bodies, minds and souls’.
