Seventy-five boys from our Junior section came down to Rowley Lane on the weekend for an afternoon of fun at the first ever Junior Fun Day!
The delights on offer included BBQ food, football skills on the 3G pitch with Tony & Lorenc, FIFA 18 in the clubhouse and table tennis out the back.
Then 22 of the boys walked out on to the top pitch with the Lions first team and their opponents, Winslow United, as our match day mascots before our Spartan South Midlands Division One clash.
The boys sang, danced and chanted every kick of the ball and created a fabulous atmosphere for the 1st team to play in – spurring the side onto a 3-2 victory. The half time penalty shoot-out was also very popular – all the boys took turns taking penalties against two of our excellent Junior goal keepers in front of the Alan Mattey Stand.
In all, the boys and their families made up our largest home league attendance of the season (117) and everyone left with huge smiles on their faces, full bellies & Lions water bottles for the successful penalty takers!
Lions Vice-Chairman Nathan Kosky said: ‘It was a hugely pleasing day. To see so many Juniors having fun together and then enjoying the football on show; hopefully one or two more will want to aspire to play for the first team one day, but they are definitely enjoying being part of Lions, which is all we want.
‘I can’t thank the staff and volunteers enough – it was perfect from start to finish’.
With such a successful inagural day, and a Lions home win, look out for Fun Day in 2018/19!
