Two Lions Under-10 teams qualified for the finals of the Watford Friendly League annual tournament after great performances on Sunday.
Both Lions White and Blue teams were pitted in difficult groups, and needed to finish top to qualify; but after a determined morning’s work at Northwood FC, Lions now have two teams going to the finals, where four teams will battle it out to be the overall Under-10 Champions.
Lions Blue manager Andrew Whiteley was rightly proud of his boys: ‘Having to play a group packed full of ‘A’ teams from the WFL’s top division, we feared the worst, but the boys responded brilliantly and it was probably their best achievement to date’.
Lions White boss, Nathan Kosky, was equally pleased with his team’s work: ‘It’s always very difficult to qualify out of this tournament, with 24 teams all of a good standard but I felt our boys were ready to try and outplay anyone this year, and I am so pleased that all their hard work was rewarded today.
‘It makes it extra special that out of just four teams to win their group, Lions had two. Now we just hope one of us can win the trophy!’
The Semi-Final and Finals will take place on 8th May, at Harvesters FC and the Lions teams will be joined by London Colney and AC Finchley.
